Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the data platform infrastructure that supports Marqeta's data and machine learning initiatives.
• Oversee the lakehouse architecture and ensure efficient streaming ingestion processes using technologies like Iceberg, Delta on S3, and Spark.
• Implement and manage Kafka and CDC pipelines, enabling seamless data flow and processing across various teams.
• Develop abstractions that empower other engineering teams to land data effectively, construct pipelines, and publish datasets without needing to create the underlying patterns.
• Participate in a rotational on-call pager duty to ensure system reliability and performance, collaborating with team members to resolve any issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on data platforms and infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of data engineering principles and practices, with hands-on experience in building scalable data architectures.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Scala, or Python, and familiarity with data processing frameworks like Spark.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and data storage solutions (S3, databases).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
